Jerusalem before 1967After the British took over Palestine life continued at slow and gentle pace for a while. The Greek and German Colonies, the Baqa’a and Katamon were served by the Arab villages to the south – Beit Safafa , Battir and Malha. The variety of fruit were brought to the door. Was other bazzar at the end of Davide Street and fish bazzar was inside the Jaffa str. Inside the Old City were many Arabs butchers. In the summer time was jdad el zaitoun ( the olive- picking season ) In Jerusalem was cotton suq – SUQ EL QATTATIN near Haram el Sharif. In tis time was possible to buy toffee- apples , green almonds, fallafel with za’atar and of course the booza – icecream. and mistka – gum arabic, liquorices from tamarind or carob. A gipsy women was calling – basara, basara, ibtiftah el bakhet !- fortune teller fortune teller, will reveal your luck!
