At the distance of half a mile before reaching Emmaus you can see amid the trees the belfry the church and the Convent of the Franciscan Fathers. In the gate is invitation DOMINE , MANE NOBISCUM.The church of the Roman Gothic style was reerected on 1901.We know from the pilgrims that the church existed at the end of the 13th century. The Basilica is 32.30 metres long,20m wide and divided into three naves.That to the north contains the house of St.Cleophas the foundations of which as can be seen through the plate glass are preserved under a broad red marble step.At the east end of the „HOUSE OF ST. CLEOPHAS” there has been erected a graceful little altar of white marble.
